Larch Madness in the North Cascades! Breathtaking Views and Fall Colors!

These views were breathtaking

Larch Madness is a special event in the Pacific Northwest! Locals mention it so often for a few weeks in the fall, that you’d probably lump it in with all things pumpkin spice (ugh…). Larch Madness is much cooler though!

These trees (two species, actually: Subalpine Larch - Larix lyallii - and the Western Larch - Larix laricina - also called Tamarack) are a pretty rare type of deciduous conifer and hard to get to compared to other conifers. And I've been wanting to photograph them for years.

Everything finally aligned for me to get out and get some shots of these incredible-looking trees at their peak fall color. I had no idea the views of the North Cascades that were in store for me, though! I was so distracted by all the incredible panoramic views, that I barely pulled off making this video about it! 😉
